Raleigh Acupuncture Asthma Treatment
Watch video on how we treat asthma with acupuncture.
How It Works
The mechanism is straight forward. Specific acupuncture points on the surface of the body affect the way organs function. All the major organs in our body, including the lungs, kidneys, liver, stomach and heart, have corresponding acupuncture points on the body that influence them. When treating asthma we most often treat the lungs and kidneys.
From a Chinese medicine point of view, the lungs and kidneys work together to assure steady, normal breathing. Asthma patients most often will have weakness or deficiency in one or both of these organ functions. Acupuncture strengthens the lungs and kidneys, with the direct result of stronger breathing, less wheezing and less asthma symptoms.
Other respiratory conditions we treat include: ALLERGIES, CHRONIC COUGH, and SINUS INFECTIONS.
Where Are The Acupuncture Points Located?
The Raleigh Acupuncture asthma treatment uses points on the upper back. These acupuncture points have a strong influence on lung function. Kidney strengthening points are also located on the back, closer to the lower back. These points are gently inserted (you will hardly feel them), yet their impact is great. Many of our patients fall asleep on the table during their treatment.
The treatment is also effective face up, for patients who do not feel comfortable lying face down. Lung and kidney points are also located on the arms and legs, and work very well for treating asthma.
How Many Treatment Will You Need?
While it varies from person to person, generally you will want to receive 6 to 12 acupuncture treatments to improve your asthma condition. You will start feeling the beneficial effects of the acupuncture after the first two or three treatments, and will continue to improve as the treatments continue.
Unlike most Western medicines, acupuncture has long lasting effect. The goal of acupuncture is always to have the patient retain the improvements they receive for a long time.

What our Clients are Saying
My treatments for asthma at Raleigh Acupuncture were successful. I’ve had asthma my whole life. It was typically triggered when I played sports or physically exerted myself. I was using an inhaler (Advair) for years, but wanted to try acupuncture to see if I could stop using it.
My research on acupuncture treating asthma showed mixed results, but the doctor at the acupuncture office encouraged me to try their treatment. I received 12 treatments total. After the first six treatments I was noticing a positive difference. I didn’t have to use my inhaler as often. After the 12 visits I was needing the inhaler even less frequently.
I can tell that my lungs are stronger now. I get less winded, wheeze much less frequently, and have more stamina. I will continue the acupuncture on a maintenance basis to keep up the benefits. I recommend them for treating asthma.
